The final stage of the Cole Harbour Community Park will be completed this summer.
Construction on a new gazebo is expected to start sometime in July and be completed a few weeks following.
The city began to develop the two-acre park located at the corner of Auburn Street and John Steward Drive in Cole Harbour in 2005.
It already has a playground, basketball and bocce court, pathways and park furniture.
"The community has also been planting some flower beds in the park as well, and some young trees," said Therese Delorme, HRM project manager for the park. "This (the gazebo) is the last step in the development of the park."
She said the park is well used by families living in the area.
"The gazebo will be there for the public to use," said Delorme. "It's going to have two benches, but also some space for people to bring their chairs if they want. It's going to provide an area for people to sit off in the shade. Hopefully it will be a good addition to the park."
The 15 ft. by 11.6 ft. gazebo will be built on a concrete pad, have a wood and asphalt shingled roof, and metal posts.
The work will be completed by Terra Marine Industries Ltd. at a cost of $13,000 (plus taxes).
